PROJECT: DON'T TELL MY MOM!

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

As a mother of two teens the realization that this fleeting time in life was coming to an end and these kids would soon be leaving home made me pick up the camera as a way to savour every last minute I have with them. As I started photographing I felt like I was taken back in time, to my own teen years. It’s all still so relatable, the carefree exuberance, the togetherness, adventure, bravado, awkwardness, pushing boundaries. A time when it is so important to simultaneously express individuality and be part of a group.  A time of life when we hang on tight to some elements of childhood as we stretch toward adulthood, a foot in both worlds. What struck me most is how some things never change. The phones may be different but teens still sing popular songs at the top of their lungs and it is still just as important to have that certain pair of jeans.

The title Don’t Tell My Mom was chosen with the teens in this project as a way of poking fun at me - I’m the Mom.
